ET & IT - Digital Synergy in Schools

Only a few decades ago, the technological resources available in schools were limited to basic tools. With the expansion of the internet and the acceleration of digital progress, technology has become an indispensable pillar of how educational institutions operate.

Today, the partnership between Educational Technology (ET) and Information Technology (IT) has become essential for the successful use of technology in educational processes. Digital resources are now a fundamental part of pedagogical innovation.

The IT department is responsible for the infrastructure that supports the operation of servers, the stability of the internet network, device configuration and the protection of data belonging to the entire school community, in accordance with the General Personal Data Protection Law (LGPD).

The ET team, in turn, must be aligned with the school curriculum and is responsible for curating technology for pedagogical use, supporting and ensuring the correct use of digital resources in learning activities. Its work, integrated with the practice of teachers, students and school leaders, is essential to guarantee the appropriate use of technological tools in the classroom. This department should focus on learning intentionality and pedagogical purpose, taking part in the choice of digital resources (together with IT), in the continuing development of teachers, in structuring active learning methodologies and in ensuring that technology fosters meaningful learning.

Continuous alignment between the two areas brings positive results to everyday school life:

• 1. Sound choice of tools: technical and pedagogical dialogue promotes the selection of secure digital resources, ensuring solutions that are viable from both a technical and a pedagogical standpoint;
• 2. Continuity and fluidity of lessons: integrated planning ensures that the IT infrastructure supports the demands of pedagogical projects. This prevents instability or connection drops during digital activities, so that teachers and students do not lose class time solving operational failures;
• 3. Citizenship, digital literacy and safety: IT implements the necessary technical barriers, such as firewalls and access control, while ET translates these guidelines into appropriate use within the school. This partnership contributes to the development of digital literacy and media literacy, to tackling cyberbullying, and to the ethical use of artificial intelligence and of the internet.
• 4. Continuing development: ET guides teachers in using technology with intentionality, while IT provides immediate support and produces practical troubleshooting manuals, giving the teaching team greater autonomy.

In short, combining a stable technical infrastructure with clear pedagogical objectives allows the school to ensure smoother lessons and effective learning, so that teachers feel supported to innovate and to ensure that students receive an ethical and safe digital education.
